The Parlor started as three best friends who were part of one another’s lives before their careers. They decided it was time to pave their separate paths into one. Tyler, Joe, and Chris wanted to build a shop where homage was paid daily to the forefathers of their crafts, and create an atmosphere where anyone could feel at home and part of their tribe. A business partnership was formed based on values of honesty, loyalty and respect: not only to one another, but to their clients and trades.
Our goal is to bring a true, classic shop to Southwestern Ohio. The blue-collar roots of Barbering and Tattooing have been tied together since the birth of both professions. We have created a space that is a step back in time. From the glowing, checkered floors to the bright and bold classic tattoo flash, your eyes can’t find just one place to rest. We encourage and facilitate good times where clients become friends and friends become family.
Back in the 1940s many after a misjudgment and prejudice against tattoos met its growing demand. Many cities across this great nation began to outlaw or Prohibit the professional application of tattoos. Instead of cowering and abandoning the craft, many tattooers became “bootleggers” striking up deals to operate in barber shops after business hours. They would dodge the officials that were policing the craft by late hours and shops hidden in plain sight! Barbers aided the craft of tattooing and a bridge was formed between crafts.
These stories inspired us to open a hybrid shop. Since tattooing hit the mainstream we don’t suffer the need to hide away in secrecy, but chose to merge crafts to pay respect to those who came before! We are an approved and licensed business from Miamisburg Health board and Ohio barber board. We model our shop as the classic model of that era and provide clients with a chance to step back in time and experience the roots of our crafts!
The Parlor is full of vintage tattoo designs and hand painted flash from Joe Joseph and Chris Prince Jr's collections of history. Tyler's approach to cutting is rooted in the foundations of American barbering and use of the straight razor.
The three are a dying breed of historians that collect relics of the past. The shop displays these to educate our clients to understand the power and magnitude of our trades and the advancements they have made. Both Joe & Chris use Classic coil machines hand built by legendary tattooers. They take their tools and profession very seriously to provide the best application and healing of a tattoo possible!
